Bilingual vs Multilingual view modes & how to switch between them

Table of Contents

View Modes

When the GL Strings Editor is open, there are two available modes to view translations: the bilingual view and the multilingual view.

Bilingual View

Focus on a specific language (pair) for either translation or review. Bilingual View

Multilingual View

Work across multiple languages simultaneously: view, edit, search, and filter all draft/target strings at once for any set of selected languages. Multilingual View

Use Cases

  • Work on multiple dialects of the same language (e.g. German-Germany, German-Austria, and German-Switzerland).
  • Use a pivot language for indirect translation (e.g. Greek → English (pivot) → Thai).
  • Compare translation status for any set of strings across multiple languages.

Considerations

Ensure the language(s) you want to edit are selected from the language dropdown:

  • Select source (base) language to edit source strings.
  • Select target language(s) to edit draft/target strings.

When using the Inconsistencies or the Duplicates filters:

  • Include the source (base) language in your selection to provide necessary context for filter results.

Once the language(s) you want to edit are selected:

  • Strings can be sorted according to various criteria. See Sorting for more information.
  • Actions taken using the Status or Actions buttons for selected strings will apply to all currently selected languages:

⚠️ Warning: The option to add character restrictions to a string is disabled in the multilingual view.
